How to Survive a Pharmacy Technician Job Interview

When interviewing for a pharmacy technician position, it helps to know the industry and practice ahead of time to effectively answer the questions that will likely be asked by the interviewer. A positive first impression is hard to make the second time around. Being prepared along with the right type of pharmacy technician training and experience can rank you above those less prepared.

E-spying on Potential Candidates

This is a subject that I have been dying to write about with the coming of the Facebooks, MySpace, YouTube etc. I am going to coin this as E-Spying. I have been doing recruiting for well over 12 years and I guess I wish this option was available then BUT is it really fair? (See some of the votes on our New Media Hire blog poll).

Having Confidence as a Pharmacist is Essential

A patient is going to be looking to you for guidance when they are going to be starting a new medication. The new medication will have them being nervous at first with the idea of experiencing a number of side effects. What you need when it comes to encouraging the patient is confidence. The confidence comes into the picture by reassuring the patient that in most cases, the patients didn"t report any side effects. However; there is a small portion of the population who might be more sensitive to the side effects and that these are the patients that reported having a problem such as be nauseous when taking the medication.÷

When the patient is concerned about the side effects and how they will feel when on the medication, tell them that in most cases the side effects are worth the risk when taking the medication as opposed to not taking the medication. The doctor should not and in most cases, will not give a medication unless they feel that the patient needs this medication. In some cases, the doctor is not completely sure if the medication will help but will be worth giving it a shot if it will make you feel better and feel more at ease.÷

Confidence is a key role in a number of careers and not just in the career of being a pharmacist. You will be working closely with the patients and therefore, you will want to make sure that you are showing that you have confidence when dealing with these patients so that they do not return to the doctors office being unsure of the medication that they are taking and this can be especially true when a patient is coming to you seeking help with over the counter medications. All of this will play a role in being a pharmacist.
