Pros and Cons of a Second Job
Prosð€×   Money
Obviously, a second job means that you"ll be getting more money besides your monthly paycheck. This is still the biggest reason why people take a second job. Earning extra income is can be incredibly helpful, especially when bills start to pile up on your desk.
ð€×   Employment Security
Having a second job can also give you security when it comes to work. With the current problem of recession and job lay-offs, your extra job can be your fallback and even a lifesaver to help keep you and your family afloat.
ð€×   New Skills
An extra job can give you an opportunity to learn more things and skills. Most second jobs usually deal with technology and the Internet. You can learn more about Microsoft office, HTML and other technical skills that you can use to your advantage in your primary job or elsewhere.
Cons
ð€×   Exhaustion
Once you get an extra job, youð€™ll end up working 10 to 15 hours a day. Even if your work does not require any extraneous activity, sitting by the computer for a long time can be extremely exhausting. Moreover, the hours you need in commuting from one job to the other can also contribute to your daily exhaustion. This can cause health hazards so you need to be careful.
ð€×   Time
Since youð€™ve been working like a dog for the past week, you"ll find that you don"t have as much time as you used to. You therefore make use of the weekends to catch up on your sleep and reenergize yourself for the coming workweek ahead, limiting your time with friends and family.
ð€×   Performance slippage
Since youð€™re juggling two jobs, stress and exhaustion are bound to strike sooner or later. Towards the end of the work week, you might fail to reach targets or deadlines, or you might forget to submit a report that was asked of you at the start of the week. Employers have never looked kindly on poor performance, and if you can"t live up to their expectations of you, you might find yourself out of a job that you desperately need.
Having a second job is certainly a saving grace to help you with daily expenses. It can help you survive and even give you a much more comfortable life. But remember, disadvantages also exist in getting a second job. You"ll need to think hard about what you can or can"t take before you sign the deal on that second job.
