The Characteristics of Effective Security Guards: Courage
Regardless of where a security guard works, he or she must possess courageous characteristics in order to land and maintain their job. Courageous characteristics among security guards must be present before the security guard gets his or her job, but he or she will also learn many courageous characteristics while on the job.A security guard must have the courage to bring his or herself into dangerous situations in order to protect innocent parties. A security guard enters each day with the possibility of facing the most dangerous and life-threatening situations. Security guards in certain situations have more dangerous jobs. For example, a security guard at a prison must possess more courage for dangerous situations than a security guard at a high school.
The courageous characteristics a security guard posses allows him or her to walk into situations without knowing if the situation is minor or major. A security guard may attempt to stop a verbal argument between a couple and find him or herself at gun point, or in a hostage situation. A person with a career as a security guard must sacrifice his or her own safety and life to keep the location or business secure and protect all parties involved in the place of business, from protecting inmates from one another to protecting innocent children from a bomb threat.
While a career as a security guard may seem less dangerous than a job as a police officer, both jobs require a courageous individual willing to put their lives on the line everyday and never know if the day will be ordinary and eventless or full of chaos and danger.
