To Overcome Unemployment - Get Out Of Bed Every Morning!
Unemployment can be emotionally crushing as you find your life turned upside down. This makes it important to keep up your morning routine; shower, shave, get dressed like you are going to work. Do not let yourself sit around the house in a t-shirt and sweatpants. You have too many thing to do. You are now working for yourself in an unpaid position. Your job now is to find another employer as soon as possible. Depending on your profession and location this job may be as tough as any job you have ever held.Start a daily job search journal in a small notebook. Write down who you have met with, called, or emailed while job hunting. Use your journal to keep track of where you have sent resumes and what response you received. A small notebook can be carried along wherever you go. That way you will be prepared to jot down some notes when someone at the grocery store or the coffee shop mentions a potential job opportunity. Your journal will also hold you accountable to yourself as you review your job hunting activities.
Spend some productive time on the Internet checking the job sites for any new postings. Do not limit your searches. Look for positions similar to your last job. Read the job descriptions and look at positions were you could perform. You have transferable skills, find new opportunities where you can apply them. If you are willing to relocate, browse job openings in other areas of the state or country.
Networking is the single best method for finding a new position so check your emails, send some emails, make some calls. Networking is all about meeting people, talking to people, and enlisting their help in finding another job. Get out of the house and go meet some people at the local coffee shop, the library, or any other location where people gather.
Take a look at your resume, can it be improved? Your resume is your ticket to landing an interview and it must be perfect. If your resume is less than flawless, do not expect calls from employers wanting to schedule an interview. In this job market, employers have hundreds of resumes to select from. Your resume must be perfect and ready to go for the next opportunity.
Take a look at your wardrobe be sure that you have an "interview outfit" cleaned, pressed, and ready to go at a moment"s notice. If an employer calls at 11am and wants to interview you at 1pm, you need to be ready. Timing is everything so remember the Boy Scout motto and "be prepared."
Finally, take some time out for yourself; read a book, see a movie, get some exercise, spend some quality time with family and friends. Looking for work can be lonely, frustrating, and depressing. The stress can wear you down. Eat a healthy diet and be sure you are getting enough sleep. You need to keep your spirits up and to take are of yourself physically and mentally.
When you go to bed tonight, set the alarm and get out of bed tomorrow. An interested employer may not have called today, but you cannot allow yourself to feel defeated, you still have a job for tomorrow!
